   Every laptop I've seen supports 60 Hz modes, so the "gtf" app
that comes with XFree86 4.3 can generate a suitable modeline. eg:

$ gtf 1760 1050 60

  # 1760x1050 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 65.22 kHz; pclk: 153.40 MHz
  Modeline "1760x1050_60.00"  153.40  1760 1864 2056 2352  1050 1051 1054 1087  -HSync +Vsync
