XF86 4.2.0 Hard Freeze

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Greetings,

Attempting to get XFree86 4.2.0 (Slackware 8.1, not upgraded to 'current')
running on my Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop:
	* 196 MB RAM
	* NeoMagic MagicGraph 256AV w/ 2.5 MB memory (NM2200 chipset)
	* PII 300 Mhz (FWIW)

Any attempt to get the X server started (startx) results in a black screen
and a hard freeze. No error messages to the screen. Power has to be
cycled to get the machine to boot. I'd had this problem before with
Slackware, but was giving it another try. Posted the question in the
slackware newsgroups, but didn't get a solid answer.

I've attempted the following:
	* Using the basic VGA server
	* Using the neomagic driver

Can anyone offer suggestions?

Thanks!
