as to #3, do some more digging around. there has to be a much easier way to compare files than just dl'ing and checking file after file. FreeBSD has portupgrade..which allows one to update specific ports (like xfree86) and i would imagine that mandrake has something to that effect. Charles Pelletier Tech.
