24 Bit DirectColor problem

Hello,

I am having a problem setting my default colormap be 24bit DirectColor
.

In my XF86Config-4 I set DefaultColorDepth 24 under the Screen Section.
The xdpyinfo output all the visuals where 24 planes but the default was
TrueColor so I set the "Visual "DirectColor" under the Display
subsection when I did startx the screens just flashed ( I have to change
the XF86config and reboot to recover).

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Card0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultColorDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
        Visual "DirectColor"
    EndSubSection
EndSubSection

As a test I tried DefaultColorDepth 8 with Visual "PsuedoColor" after
startx the xdpyinfo default visual was 8bit psuedo. So I tried
DefaultColorDepth 8 with Visual"TrueColor" and after startx the xdpinfo
default visual was 8bit Truecolor. No flash of the screen occurred.

 My setup is :
Red Hat 7.3 with vmlinuz-2.4.18-3smp,
XFree86 4.2.0-8, and
Graphics board :NVidia Quadr4 750 dual head
Driver: NVidia Glx-1.02960.i386.rpm
kernel: nvidia-kernel-1.0-2960rh73 smp. i686.rpm
