Really Strange!

I only can tell what happend on my Debian 3.0 Woody-System. I ran the
xfree86config tool several times, thought set all values correct but when i
started the X it was not taking my new config-file. So the system exited
abnormally. then i specified the config file explicitly with an command
option and suddendly it took my configs. then after reading some DOC´s i
found out that the config file structure changed from XFree86 Version 3.X.X
to Verions 4.X.X. Ok and also the filename should now be XFree86Config-4 in
the /etc/X11. Maybe in RH8 it also looks for the old Version of the config
file.
