I seem to have configured XFree86 quite allright, except there is a 
question of deafault resolution I must check out.
Here's the weird part: I tried starting xdm as a common user. that was a 
no-no - apparently I can only run xdm as root.
So, as common user I ran startx. Gosh golly, miss molly, I go a screen and 
several windows. WOW!
So I opted out and copied .xinitrc (execute startkde) to the user home 
directory and KDE3 is up and running.
Now I only have to figure out how to fix xdm and to set another resolution 
than 1600x1200 for the user - it's just a little too tiny although real 
sharp. :))
Any suggestions or explanations are welcome... :))
