Here's the weird part: I tried starting xdm as a common user. that was a no-no - apparently I can only run xdm as root. So, as common user I ran startx. Gosh golly, miss molly, I go a screen and several windows. WOW! So I opted out and copied .xinitrc (execute startkde) to the user home directory and KDE3 is up and running. Now I only have to figure out how to fix xdm and to set another resolution than 1600x1200 for the user - it's just a little too tiny although real sharp. :)) Any suggestions or explanations are welcome... :)) Thanks in advance.
