As redhat kept both 3.3 and 4.1 version of XFree, you can try $ ls -l /etc/X11/X $ ln -sf /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 /etc/X11/X use this to setting the X(symbolic link) to the XFree86 which is the version 4.1 binary.
