My guess: you are running at a lower resolution than your screen resolution.
This can be due to two things.
1. your card is not recognised and you are running either vga (i.e. 640x480) or vesa this would be
bad news
2. your card is recognised, but you have to set the resolution to correspond to your screen
resolution i.e. hack the modes line in the relevant display subsection of your screen section...
(relatively simple)
