I don't know whether RH 7.3 systematically installs both 4.x.x and 3.3.6 as RH 7.2 and 7.1 do... In case it does then you should have two config files in /etc/X11 XF86Config for 3.3.6 and XF86Config-4 for 4.x.x. Switching from 3.3.6 to 4.x.x would only involve changing /etc/X11/X, this is a symlink wich points to /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 for X 4.x.x and to the selected server for X 3.3.6(often /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA or XF86_S3 i.e. XF86_**rest depends on graphic adapter**) pointing X to XFree86 gives you 4.x.x pointing X tp XF86_xxxx gives you X 3.3.6 If you do not have an XF86Config-4 then you have to generate one and check that XF86Config is really the right format for 3.3.6 (I suspect it is since you seem to be using 3.3.6) checking the log or typing X -version should tell you what you are running...
