Configuring Gnome

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Greetings,

I tried not to bother you folks too much with this, but I cant seem to find a solution. I am running OpenBSD3.1 with XFree86I was able to get X to work but only with the default window manager (twm) which is very plain jane. I am tryin got install Gnome and I do the pkg_add from the ftp install server for OpenBSD ( since OpenBSD doesnt have the nice /stand/sysinstall program that configures it for u). And when i do this it goes thru and installs the packages and dependecies for gnome but in the end it does not configure it, im still stuck with twm and a simple xterm window. Ive tried inserting exec gnome-session in the .xinitrc file but what happens then is it shows gnome but with No icons, no linked progeams or anything basically a gnome desktop with again just an xterm window. Is there a step by step way to do all the linking of the programs/menus desktop icons etc for gnome? perhaps a script to run? if you could lead me in the right direction i would greatly appreciate it as im about to pull all my hair out heh.

thanks for your time..

Brian (pulling hair out, reaching for the gun)
