Because many hardware
manufacturers provide device drivers for Windows but not yet for Linux or other
variations of Unix. This will hopefully improve as Linux and such become more
popular.

I can now start x about 50% of the time. I guess it is better than nothing. If I have a video issue , I'm wondering why it doesn't show in 2000pro or XP (Well I can hazard a guess at XP, it is the home version...) .
