I just loaded Red Hat Linux 7.3 on to an old HP Pavilion 7125. I saw no error messages during the install but X will not load or run. (I get some screen blacking out and a text mode log in prompt at startup).
The install program detected Sis SG86205 video controller. According to this web site the above controller is not supported by v4.2.0 server but is supported by 3.3.6. My system appears to be using 4.2.0. ( I used the command ls -l /etc/X11/X to determine this.)
Anybody know how I can correct this condition. I'm too old to type those text mode commands all day.
