Hello.

Thanks for the reply.
My system is actually a Pentium. But it really is very old. I don't know if this kind of processor is special in the way that it has not even a coprocessor. I always thought that even first-generation (very classic..?..) Pentium do have a coprocessor. But hey: I don't even want to swear it. I agree that it doesn't have a PCI bus. I never knew it exactly but I always suspected it. I just installed OS'es and worked with it. So I never investigated what was not in the handbook.  But to proove the Pentium, at least: I attach the output of dmesg.
I tried the "PciOsConfig" option. The screen went white nevertheless. As far as I can see the chips driver doesn't want to use this option. (I set it in the config-file which came from XFree86 -configure). On the console where I started X it gave me the additional error message (with the one in the subject of this email.):

I'll also attach the log-file from /var/log.
I hope that this gets a little clearer with this.
