Same problem with my MB and RedHat 7.2 (XFree 4.1). I can run at 16bpp and virtually any resolution using the VESA driver, but if I stop the X-server once it cannot start over again. The monitor behaves as if it is getting sync's, but no video signal. The same happens if I simply switch temporarily to a text console (Ctrl-Alt-F2), and then try to go back to X (Alt-F7).
