Assuming you have a directory structure similar to mine, you will find that /etc/X11/X points to
the currently actual server.
If it points to /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 then it is pointing to X 4.x.x
If it points to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_S3V then it is pointing to one of the X 3.3.x servers
Changing from the one to the other is then rather obvious: backup the current one (for instance
naming it X4) and create an X as a symlink to the server you love...
