Anyone else have any other ideas -- Problems running XFree86 v 4.2 on FreeBSD

Hi James

THat really sucks,... hmmmm. I'm kinda confused cause if the nv driver is
installed it should be all good and the 'XFree86 -configure' should do the
configuration for you. I'm no freebsd guru (i just picked it up last week)
so i'm not really sure what to do.

So, you said that you did or didn't download and install the linux drivers
from the nvidia web site? They say their drivers are for linux, but i think
that should be okay, cause linux uses the xfree xwindows which is the same
for freebsd.

Try downloading and installing the linux drivers that nvidia provides for
your video card if you haven't already done so (I checked, there a quite a
few, you may want to go to the bottom of the page and download the source
and then uzip and follow the install instructions). That may be the "nv"
driver that the xfree website is referring to. If you've already done that
i'm not sure what else could be the problem. I dunno if reinstalling the
whole os would make a difference cause if you couldn't configure your video
card during install then reinstalling the os wouldn't make a difference.
THis may or may not be right (as i said before, i'm super new to freebsd
too).

So, you're running xfree 4.2.0 and you also have the nv driver? Is this the
"nv" driver selected whne you pick from the option of video cards when you
run the text mode configuration of your video card?

Good luck w/ the install. I'm kinda out of ideas right now, but if i think
up of anything else i'll let you know. If your still having problems maybe
some other xfree or bsd pros who are reading this can lend a hand.

Desmond
