Actually, support for the ATi series of cards is pretty extensive - here's what I know Mach8 - accelerated in 3.3.x, unaccel in 4.x. If you have one of these, you really should upgrade. Mach32 - same as above. Mach64 and Rage/Rage Pro - hardware-accelerated 2D in 3.3.x and 4.x, Xv in 4.x. Utah-GLX provides HW-accelerated OpenGL on the Rage Pro series under 3.3.6, but there's no DRI driver as yet. Rage 128 - HW-accelerated 2D and 3D, Xv works, Render works. AFAIK, there are no non-working Rage 128 cards. Radeon / Radeon VE / Radeon 7500 - HW-accelerated 2D, 3D and Xv, Render works. Dualhead is supported on the Radeon VE/7000 and 7500. TLTIC, PCI Radeons didn't work, but that was with 4.1.0; 4.2.0 may have changed this. Radeon 8500 / FireGL 8700 - 2D, Xv and Dualhead works. There are binary-only drivers from ATi which will get GL working (and dualhead, in a quirky way). --- Mirek Vitek <vitek@voyager.net> wrote: > Hi, > > I was wondering how extensive is support for the > Ati video boards, because I have heard Linux systems > such as Debian (which I have) do not handle these > kind of cards very well.
