You should get a book on Unix or Linux and look at the section on file permissions and user rights.
If your setup was installed from some distribution CD's then the root users password would be set at that time.
Do not confuse NT administration rights with Linux/ Unix root and or users rights.

How does the user relationship work?

I am set as the user that started the install at the moment. I have NT
admin rights so does that mean that i have su rights at all?

How do i change to root as well if i'm not set as root? Is there an admin
program ro something.
