[Newbie]cannot change virtual screensize: XF86Config "Virtual" lineignored

Thanks for your help. I'd love to do that, the problem is that I don't
know what modelines to put in there. I tried copying one for 1600x1200
but then X complained that it wasn't a valid mode. Any advice on how I
can hack up an appropriate modeline?
