I have installed Redhat 7.2 on an old Compaq Prosignia 500 server with a P150 processor and 128MB RAM, and ( since the onboard CL5420 chipset was not supported in Xfree 4.1.0) I am usuing a S3 card with 1MB RAM. When installing Redhat I was getting an error saying I didn't have enough RAM when I actually had 128MB. I ended up using the command "Linux mem=128M text" and then the install went fine. Now when I try to start X using KDE it loads very very slow and then when finally up it is so slow it is unusable..I'm talking several minutes to navigate each menu. The whole time it is thrashing the hard disk non stop...is X having trouble seeing my RAM just like the Redhat installer did and then writting everything to swap? How can I force it to see my RAM? BTW I am using a swap file that is 256MB. Thanks for any help you can offer.
