Yes.  That's what led me to subscribe to the mailing lists.

Nope.. this is a brand new system with 60+ gigs of disk and a half-gig of RAM.

This is my next step.  I just wanted to ascertain whether the ground had 
been covered before.  The odd behavior and the fact that the S3 Virge/GX2 
is supposedly well-supported by  XF86_SVGA made me curious.

I'll report back when I've had a chance to install XF86_V4.
