[Newbie]Re: Mac OS X

Jason,

We've had a problem with one of the new 2x1.0Ghz G4s where it refuses to
communicate with one other Mac (an 867 G4) on the LAN. znApple has been
jerking us around for over a week on this -- their help desk is populated by
idiots. They blame the switch ("oh, you have to disable the spanning tree"
-- which no unmanaged switch uses), the other machines, anything to avoid
digging into the problem. They were very unhappy when I conjoined the
machines with a crossover cable and still had trouble.

To isolate the problem, try to ping and ftp to/from the other machine. File
sharing needs to be on (stop it, and restart to be sure everything on the
mac is current). And,ftp (file sharing panel) needs to be enabled.
