Carsten, I think you need glibc version 2.2. You'd best download the following
packages from redhat.com into one directory

ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.2/en/os/i386/glibc-2.2.4-24.i386.rpm
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.2/en/os/i386/glibc-common-2.2.4-24.i386.rpm
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.2/en/os/i386/glibc-devel-2.2.4-24.i386.rpm
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.2/en/os/i386/glibc-profile-2.2.4-24.i386.rpm
ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.2/en/os/i386/nscd-2.2.4-24.i386.rpm

and install them from that directory with
	rpm -Uvh *.rpm

Then you should install XFree86 4.2.0 via "Xinstall.sh"
(you downloaded ALL the packages from
ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.2.0/binaries/Linux-ix86-glibc22/ ?).
That's the way I successfully did an upgrade on Redhat 7.1.
Good luck
Klaus
