[Newbie]Dell Inspiron 8000: Modeline request for 800x600 on LCD

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 8000 and I am trying to setup the tv
output. This machine have an ATI Rage 128 Mobility MF
and a 15' SXGA 1400x1050 LCD screen.

So far the 'atitvout' works in text mode but not in X
(at 1400x1050). Apparently it is necessary to lower the
resolution at 800x600 or below.

No modeline I tried worked so far, all give some sort of horizontal
"warping" (for lack of better words to describe it).

I've tried also to build one as described in XFree86-Video-Timings-HOWTO
but so far ESR lost me somwhere at SH1, SH2 and SV2 :-(

Dell supplies one modeline which works, described as:
  HorizSync 31.5 - 90.0
  VertRefresh 60.0
  Modeline "1400x1050" 108.000 1400 1448 1462 1688 1050 1050 1053 1066

There is something else strange: X reports the clock
being able to go from 17 to 270 but all 800x600 modes
(in the logs) were reported at 108.

Is there anybody able to help me or explain ?

TIA

Cheers,
