[Newbie]Nothing Happens when configuring Xwindows

Well, how do you fire up your X?
with <startx> or plain <X>?
If the latter is the case, everything is just fine since that's all X does - make graphics with a checkered background and show the pointer...
Try <startx> instead.
But if you did, hand over more info, there's sth wrong then.
