The manual is indispensible, but personally, I've found the Sams "Learn in 24 Hours" tutorial to be the best. Basically, it breaks learning PHP/Mysql in 24 bite-sized chunks, letting you learn at your own pace... At any rate, that's how I picked it up... (I program in PHP for a living now...
