I had already done that per the appdb, but thanks.
But anytime steam has crashed on me, the wineprefix went bad from something.
That does appear to be the case, reran the Steam install through winetricks (code: 'winetricks steam' in case anyone searches this later and needs it) and that seems to have fixed the crash. thanks!
