Is there a reason you're trying the Windows version instead? I'm not trying to use Audacity at all. I'm trying to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking. But there is no free demo for NatSpeak, and no one usually knows what's going on when it has a sound problem. However, I know from long experience that Audacity Windows in "default" sound mode gives the exact same experience, and the discrepancies give useful information. So, the improvements to the sound system has probably caused a breakage that will undoubtedly be fixed soon. Susan
