Hi all,
I wasn't around when .po files were introduced into Wine so I've missed the thought process, but following this:

(and http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2011-April/100575.html)
I must ask what are they for? Is it simply a case that they haven't been fully implemented yet? I understand that .rc files are needed, but surely a conversion from .po to .rc should be done automatically. Having translations in both the .rc and .po files will do nothing more than duplicate the work.
If you've worked with po files, then you know that they make the
translation process to 'other' languages from the base language (in this
case AMERICAN English). Thus, if you wanted to use British English
(en_GB), you would create a .po file with the changes needed for
Britishisms only and leave the cases where American and British English
blank or the same.
Works very well for large projects like Wine as you only need one file,
rather than separate .rc files for each process. That is in theory.
The URL where another poster sent you is how to use gettext to interpret
the .po file.
