My first attempt at installing the game seemed to go smoothly. The terminal showed a ton of errors, but the install process went all the way to the end with no crashes. However, when I tried to play the game, nothing happened. I still have a few more questions, but I guess I'll try using the .exe and see if that makes any difference. I can see that this is going to be a reinstall X10 job until I get it right. Trial and error......
