1. Have you checked the AppDB entry for Rome: Total War (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4496) for tips related to this issue? 2. What is your dll override status regarding Direct X? Have you installed d3dx9 via winetricks, or not? 3. Have you tried making a new clean prefix for R:TM only and seeing if it runs again that way? It can happen that upgrading a pre-existing Wine install "in place" doesn't go perfectly and things like this happen. This is only one of the many reasons it's better to make a separate prefix for each app/game you install rather than just installing everything to the default ~/.wine. Good luck!
