There's a comment in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7585 that reports upgrading from a 169.xx driver to a 185.xx one solved a problem with this game crashing for one user. A bad graphics driver could actually account for all your problems, particularly if everything you have been trying to install are games. I'd try upgrading.
