When I last played HL2: Ep1, I used wine-1.1.15 plus a hack that disables SRGB reloading, which resulted in good performance.There are newer versions of wine with newer SRGB hacks, but I haven't tested them personally.I definitely agree that you'll still probably need a better video card to get good performance, though. I should note that the original HL2 has very good performance by default, but the HL2 episodes still have performance issues with stock versions of wine.
