We would like to have USB support in Wine. Ethersoft has submitted their patches ones or twice. After his first attempt I believe Alexandre said that some stuff has to be done in a different way. At the beginning of this year he submitted a new version but I don't think he submitted it for review to wine-patches. I'm not sure if the current design is good or bad. Alexandre would need to be consulted for that. I don't think there is anything wrong with using libusb in Wine since it is cross platform.
