So far it hasn't set off the audio alarm, but it does peg the top end of the red section in the software thermal monitor, so over 100c, where it used to never go above 87-88c.
And I am not sure about your 9800GT but my 8400GS is rated for 120C so I do not worry when I see 85C temps..
