To change the driver you will have to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf, Look for section “Device” it should look more or less like this: Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" Driver "nvidia" EndSection Now where you have “nvidia” (in yours xorg.conf this will say something different... intel maybe?) change it to “vesa” so it looks like this: Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" Driver "vesa" EndSection Save and restart xserver (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart (kdm if you are using kubuntu)). I think Intel drivers use DRI+mesa for direct rendering so setting driver to vesa should switch you to indirect mesa rendering. Note: this will be slow as hell, this is for testing only.
