1) The "command prompt" in linux is called the shell. In your Ubuntu it is found under Applications -> Terminal >From there it works pretty much the same as the Windows command prompt, just a different language. 2) Does the sound fully work on your system? (Example, you can play an MP3 and hear it) 3) Are you using ALSA or OSS?
