I just tried starting the program without going through my VPN to see what would happen. The same error messages in the terminal but the program does not give me the sockets and datagram error I got before and actually tries to find the server specified. Tomorrow I will try and install the Windows version of the VPN client under Wine and see if that makes any difference.
