:( Fixing this may be painful. However, I do suggest visiting the unofficial X11 web site and installing 2.2.1 if you are running Leopard. The original X11 that shipped with Leopard is broken.
I'm posting this a few hours after my last post, and I just noticed X11 appears for less then a second on my dock every 5-10 sec.
Ouch! I hope your system is not crashing due to this problem. James McKenzie
