Can I use wine without installing XP, for example. Because I have several old applications, which I would like to run on linux together with wine. No, you do not need a windows installation. Wine translates theWindows API calls into native calls for you. Check the AppDB(appdb.winehq.org) to see if your app is listed and any issues you mayencounter.
