I'm an idiot. When I assumed you were using Money 2006 because it had the no text problem, I searched for bugs about it and didn't find anything relevant. Then when I found out it was Money 98, I didn't look for bugs affecting that version. This bug suggests that someone had it working with a very old version (whatever was before 20050310): http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2804. He probably had to get a lot of dlls from windows, and I don't think that version had an IE replacement (so I don't know if he installed it), but at least now you know it's possible. Or maybe you knew already because you saw that page..but at least now I know. If you want to try that version, you should probably use a separate WINEPREFIX and run that version directly from the source tree (that way you'd still be able to use a recent Wine for other things). I still think it'd be better to use the most recent version if possible. It looks like I don't have those IE-version-related keys either (and I do have the same subfolders). Presumably you would have to go to Internet Explorer in the registry and make new string values for them. The phrase "some components of Internet Explorer" and the fact that you had to copy more than a few dlls makes me think this probably won't work. What dlls did you have to copy from windows? If they're parts of IE that Wine doesn't provide, it's probably not worth trying anymore to make Wine's IE work. IE components would be likely to expect things of the IE dlls that a normal app wouldn't. Then again, maybe they're all relatively innocent things like MFC42. Depending on which ones they are you may want to file a bug about either the missing dlls or Money's failure to start. So I guess the thing to do, except in the very unlikely case where editing the registry works, would be to install MSIE6 (ok, so that's what you were doing from the start; still, it might have worked, and at least this way we can get some useful information so the developers can try to make it work), set the proper dll overrides so Wine's IE isn't used (hopefully you know what those are because I don't), and try to run it again. Hopefully it won't crash in ILGetSize like it did for the guy who filed that bug. On 7/26/06, Leslie Katz <lesliek@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Next, I looked in my c:\windows\fonts folder and found it empty, so I copied over from my Windows installation all the files in the relevant Fonts folder, all 407 of them! Next, I ran the Money 98 installation program and had no problem with absence of text from installation screens. It complained about its inability to install MSIE3.02 (which is on the Money98 cd), but otherwise implied that it had installed the Money application. Sure enough, I found it in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Money. When I ran it, however, it refused to open because of an absence of various named dlls. I copied those over from my Windows installation and tried again. This time, it almost opened, but ultimately failed with the following message: "Money requires some components of Internet Explorer in order to function properly. Please reinstall Money so that Money can add these components for you." That took me back to something you wrote in your first email. You wrote: "You could help the Wine project by trying to install it [in other words, MSMoney] with Wine's built-in internet explorer replacement and filing a bug if it doesn't work. ... You may need to edit the registry to make the app think you have IE 6 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys)" I found the relevant bit in the wiki document, but I simply don't understand what it's being suggested in that document I do. When I go to my registry, beneath HKLM, Software, Microsoft, Internet Explorer, I have three existing folders called AboutURLS, Default Behaviors and Version Vector. That seems different to me than the structure referred to in the wiki document. If you could give me some indication as to what I should be adding to my registry, I'd be very grateful. Leslie
