*hint* you probably want to look into tools/wineshelllink, which is a simple shell
script used to create desktop and menu entries.
There is some gnome related stuff in there iirc, but that doesn't seem to work
on recent gnome versions.

I guess gnome now uses the freedesktop standard* for menus/desktop entries which isn't
implemented in wineshelllink.


*which you should find somewhere on freedesktop.org
