hi james, replacing with native rpcrt4.dll (remember that i had already
replaced with native oleaut32.dll, shlwapi.dll, and added lacking shell32.dll
and stdole2.tlb):

me@debian:~$ WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ole32,oleaut32,rpcrt4=n"
wine /home/me/ch/ch.exe   fixme:win:SetWindowTextA setting
text "Unpacking Software..." of other process window (nil) should
not use SendMessage

the installation box appears and blue squares flush for a while until a second
box appears with:

Setup failed to launch installation engine (0x8007000e).

Does this suggest anything?

Thanks again (thanks also to Sterling Sylvain Molle and Kent who took part)
