Why a fonteditor?
There isn't a requirement given in the original suse rpms of wine 0.9.12.
But I installed the fontforge rpm from suse 9.2 before giving wine 0.9.12 a
new chance; but it does not help.
No character around the windows window.
Sometimes around wine 0.9.x there were font problems therefor I think this
could be a bug.
I will ask in the suse mailing list if it is a special suse problem.

I had been the same problem with wine-0.9.12. After googling, i have
installed fontforge and recompiled wine and it was all right. With
Gentoo, fontforge is a dependance (probably temporarly) of wine.
But with rpm the situation isn't the same. maybe, try installing
fontforge and wine from source ?
