Did you take a look at the AppDB entries of these applications ? I don't
know for WMP but for IE the How-to works very well since a long time
already.

Yes, I did. The Howto is very short:

  * Use Sidenet (tested with version 1.9.0) to set up a Wine environment
  * Install Windows Media Player 6.4, or Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 via
    Sidenet or manually

When trying Sidenet, I get "The download location information is damaged", as mentioned in my original post.

Should I file a bug report, perhaps?
