You should check out the docs on winehq.org, they'll give better
details then the folowing: your CVSROOT wasn't set up correctly:

CVSROOT=:pserver:cvs@xxxxxxxxxx:/home/wine

By the way this type of message is best suited for wine-users. 
wine-devel is for developer messages, and wine-bugs is just a list
where changes to wine's bugzilla are broadcast.
