That worked!! The only remaining issue is wine is reversing the mouse buttons! Where does it get the mouse layout and how can that be reversed?
Excel also is still locked on open. Do you have an answer for the Excel splash being locked?

Oh??? If you have tried this with a current CVS version and it is still broken, I would suggest that you post about it to wine-devel. The richedit control is under very active development currently.
The mIRC issue is a known issue (I had filed a bug report on it a month or so ago) : http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2793
