over the last couple of days I've been upgrading to KDE3.2, from
slackware-current. I've installed a few packages that were dependencies, and
removed a few that I thought I didn't need (lack of space). yesterday all I
had left to install was kdeedu and koffice, though there were also a few
libraries needed and a few removed.
yesterday I could run mIRC fine, today when I tried I got an error(error
message follows), I decided 'well, I'm running an old version (200309 I
believe), so I may as well upgrade' I got the precompiled slackware binary
(nodebug) from sourceforge, manually removed my old install (it was from
source and I didn't keep the install directory, so it was search and rm
*wine*) and install the new package. same error. moving the config
directories out of wine's paths didn't help, it'd complain that they were
missing but still err. my only guess so far was that I had a 686 package
installed yesterday (xine) and the new binary wine I installed today was 686,
I'm now wondering if that's the cause (I'm on a 586, Pentium MMX), with wine
previously linking in the 686 library for some reason and having a problem
there.
I'm not sure what error messages I could expect from trying to run 686 code on
a 586, if this could be it, let me know and I'll go get an older 586 binary
(mIRC is the only program I use wine for and it worked fine until today with
200309 so an old wine shouldn't be a hassle if I get it working)
since installing the new package, I've tried adding and removing packages,
most of the ones I can think of and/or I have logged as having been added/
removed yesterday

if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.
to get my logs(attached) I did the following:

	adam@littleone:~$ wine --debugmsg +all c:/mIRC/mIRC.exe > wineerror.txt 2>&1
	adam@littleone:~$ winedbg c:/mIRC/mIRC.exe > winedbgerror.txt 2>&1
	run
	bt
	quit

because there's no floppy mounted, reading a: failed (no suprise)
even `winecfg` aborted with the same error message
if more info is required (some other flags to winedbg or even a strace) then
let me know and I can make that available as well.

hoping to hear from someone soon 8^)

Adam
