Some apps (*cough*Steam*cough*) request Tahoma specifically and if not found they simply won't render text. I've submitted patches like this before, and they were dropped, presumably because of the hard-coded reference to Bitstream Vera. Unfortunately, very few fonts are metrically compatible with Tahoma (in fact I don't think even Vera is, but it's close enough for most apps). I'm really not sure what we should put here, but I know this patch fixes Steam. Huw - is there a cleaner way to do this? I'd note that since fontconfig landed font selection seems a bit messed up anyway, it always chooses the first font in the list of available fonts.
