It looks like mspdb100.dll is not in your path (this is why it helps
when you put it in current directory). Also, it looks like this can
happen even in Windows [1][2]. Please check these links and see if

Thank you, that does seem to have fixed the problem - so user error
indeed. Shame on me for jumping to conclusions about where the problem lay.
